Geelong Advertiser Archive $10,000 Public Art Commission (2019)

Perspex, Beech, Silvertop Ash and Iron Bark handmade cabinets; brushed black metal fittings; LED strip lighting and archival objects. Dimensions variable.

In this work, Amber seeks to create a dynamic but controlled aesthetic, responding to the history of organisation, collection and environment within the archive. Working specifically with the objects of the Geelong Advertiser, this work strives to compartmentalise in a non-linear and yet interrelated way; allowing for open, transposable and poetic connections between items. Taking cues from the aesthetic of newspaper ‘stacks’, newsstands, storage and logistical packaging it aims to be both historically-minded and contemporarily focused, creating unique typologies and categories of arrangement.
